Our renovation project for Dayrayto’s home, including her kitchen, was more than just a construction task—it was a heartfelt commitment to supporting someone who has shown remarkable strength in the face of adversity. Dayrayto resides in the historic 1500-year-old Mor Dimet Church in Zaz, where she has faced years of harassment and threats. These experiences left her living alone, surrounded by fear and uncertainty. By revitalizing her home, particularly her kitchen, we aimed to create a space where she could find comfort and peace.
The project involved upgrading essential facilities, modernizing the kitchen for improved usability, and enhancing the overall safety and livability of the space. This renovation not only brought warmth and functionality back into her daily life but also symbolized a collective effort to support her unwavering dedication to her community and heritage. It was about creating an environment that reflects hope and resilience, offering Dayrayto a space that feels secure, uplifting, and welcoming. This project stands as a testament to compassion and solidarity, ensuring that the courage of those who strive to protect their faith and culture is met with tangible acts of kindness and care
There were many contributions from various organizations including Midyat Municipality (Turkey), Assyrians Without Boarders (Sweden), and Save Our Souls (Germany). The Turkish government provided $5,000, another donor raised $4,000, and Nineveh Rising contributed $1,000. This collective effort highlights the global support and solidarity that surround her, showcasing the power of community and the positive impact it can have.
